From 1784 to present day, Native Americans have lost a lot of land due to colonization and coercion.
i don’t think that modern Americans realise the extent to which there was a genocide committed by their forefathers. it was a genocide no doubt and no amount of land or money will bring back the millions yes MILLIONS slaughtered. By conservative estimates, the population of the United states prior to European contact was greater than 12 million. Four centuries later the count was reduced by 95% to roughly 237 thousand
They forgot quite a few reservations. there are some in Maine. one is right next to my town. this person clearly didn’t do their research.
I don’t mean this as a snarky “America, fuck yeah!”, but what about a worldwide map with the rise and fall of nearly every civilization from the beginning of what history we know to now? Peoples of all races and origins have been conquered or conquered others (Native Americans are not exempt from either category), the fact that this was recent does not, in my opinion, make it any different to me. I do see this as trying to spoon-feed me white guilt, which is bullshit. Am I happy that Native Americans were slaughtered for land? Nope. Am I aware that it has happened for the entirety of human existence and will for the foreseeable future? Yes. Warfare over resources is human nature, and is sometimes the only real way to solve the issue of who is going to own it.
In all fairness, there should be another map at the very beginning: the one where Native Americans occupy all the land.
considering what usually happens to a country when they get invaded they should be thankful we didnt kill them all
