Perhaps you're underestimating the difference between “dead” and “dead & rose.” And “guy we've seen on TV” and “guy we've heard about in 2,000-year-old storybook.”

Nobody questions whether Jesus died pastor, it's the other bits that people have qualms about…

I think Jesus was about 2,000 years ago pastor, and, unless it was Black Ops, the US government probably wasn't involved. Unless you count the back-door funding of the Israeli state.
