John Green Reveals Cast Secrets From The Set Of "Paper Towns"

Spoiler alert: They sing a LOT of Taylor Swift.

If you've read or seen The Fault in Our Stars and loved it, you'll want to add Paper Towns to your list. It's a story about a beloved but misunderstood high school girl (Cara Delevingne) who goes missing, and her neighbor and childhood friend's (Nat Wolff) search for her using the clues she left behind. The author, John Green, stopped by BuzzFeed New York to hand out some cast superlatives and share some on-set secrets. Here's what Green revealed!

Who's most likely to pull a prank on set?

John Green: It's quite difficult because... everyone.

    JG: Justice and Austin.

Is there a particular prank that happened?

JG: They acquired a BB gun. I think that's all I'm legally allowed to say.

    That sounds dangerous.

JG: It was removed from their ownership 24 hours after they acquired it. [laughs] Those boys.

Who's the most fearless on set when it comes to stunts?

JG: The most fearless person I've ever met.

Is she just down for everything?

JG: [laughs] Yes, Cara Delevingne is down for everything. I think she might want that on her tombstone.

Who would you say is the best at improv?

JG: The best at improv? That's tough, they're all good at improv.

JG: Nat's a brilliant improvisational actor. Half the stuff in the movie happened after the camera was supposed to cut. They just learned to not cut them.

Who's the biggest flirt or most likely to have a crush on set?

JG: They're all pretty likely to have crushes on set because I think they all did.

JG: I'll just leave that there.

Who is most likely to hang out off set/in real life? Any close friendships?

JG: They really are like, best friends. They still have dinner all the time together. It's so sweet. It makes me so happy. It's like they went to summer camp but then summer camp never ended. They really love each other; it's amazing. It makes my heart swell the way they really love each other and stand up for each other. I was once in a room where someone was saying slightly snarky things about one of the cast members and one of the other cast members said, "I'm going to have to ask you to shut up because I don't think you know that person." It's a really special group.

Who is most likely to be found at craft services?

JG: The food is free — you can have as much as it as you want. I drank between 6 to 10 Diet Pepsis per day, every day, for 42 days. And at no point did anyone charge me for them. It was amazing. It just kept happening. The Cheeto situation... Again, every time you would finish a bag of Cheetos, five minutes later, you'd be like, "You know what I could go for? A bag of Cheetos." You would go back, and someone had replaced your recently eaten bag of Cheetos. It's a miracle.

Who's most likely to be reading a John Green book on set?

JG: Aww. They all read them! But probably...

JG: Jaz and Justice — I think they're the biggest John Green book fans.

Who's most likely to burst out in a Taylor Swift song?

    JG: OMG that's impossible.

JG: At no point did they ever stop singing "Blank Space" during the entire shoot. It was infuriating. Everyone sang "Blank Space" the entire time. So much so, that a quiet moment, when I'm at like Chuck E. Cheese's with my son, I would just be sitting there having a slice of pizza, thinking to myself, "Boys only want love if it's torture." And I have NO IDEA where the thought came from and then I'll realize, Oh yeah, it's because of Cara and Nat and Jaz and Justice.

    We're very pro–Taylor Swift here.

JG: Oh yeah, I am very pro–Taylor Swift. We spoke on the phone. Briefly. Well, we FaceTimed. It was pretty special. She was eating a cookie and I was standing in a parking lot, and she said, "This cookie is so good." And I said, "It looks delicious. I am a big fan of your new album." And she said, "I really like your books." And then I said, "Well, it was nice to talk to you." That was the extent of it. [laughs] That was our entire conversation. I just told you every detail. How do I even remember every detail of my conversation with Taylor Swift from several months ago?

Who is most likely to laugh the most during takes?

JG: All of them ruin takes, but Cara ruined the most.

Who's most likely to take a bunch of selfies on set?

JG: Sorry, it is me though.

Are you pro– or anti–selfie stick?

    JG: I'm pretty anti-selfie stick.

Who's most likely to randomly sing on set?

JG: Everyone. They never stop singing. A lot of Kendrick Lamar. I became familiar with many new artists on the Paper Towns shoot.

Who takes the longest to get ready?

    JG: Oh, geez. Definitely Halston.

Who's most likely to be texting on their phone on set?

JG: Also not a difficult one.

Does she often do anything else, like Snapchatting?

JG: FaceTiming. I don't know if she was Snapchatting. I have a confession to make. I don't really... My brother is Snapchat famous but I didn't know that was really possible; I thought it was for sharing the type of pictures you would want to be temporary, so that's why I didn't download the app.

Who's most likely to get back at their ex?

    JG: [laughs]

    Fair enough.

BONUS: John came up with his own superlative.

JG: If you ask me who the best kisser is, I'm going to skip it because I'm married. But it was Nat. Actually, I'm just going to say it. Nat is the best kisser by far. What? I make out with Nat sometimes. In my marriage, first base with another dude is not cheating. It's monogamy-ish.

Paper Towns hits theaters Friday, July 24.
