I loved your criticism of pageantry for girls, and I love that this mom is so open to letting her son be who he is. But I would say that I'm a little confused on this matter though, because it really does seem like he wants to do pageants, but only I think because his mother has ingrained in him that they are important. I would think there would be better things the mom could do with her son AND daughter's time and talents other than pageants. :\

How shallow do you have to be…?

For those comparing to Sedaris, you guys should probably be aware:  “Additionally, a friend recently pointed out that this was reminiscent of the story Front Row With Thaddeus Bristol. While I love David Sedaris, I do not recall ever reading that particular story, and any similarities are completely unintentional. Sometimes two different people just have a similar idea.” This is on her actual page at the bottom. Why it was left out here, I don't know.
