Doree, if you’re still checking these comments, you might want to look into getting a prescription for a drug called Xyrem, which is actually GHB. I suffer from a lot of sleep disorders and I’ve sought various treatment for years now, and like many people, traditional sleep aids don’t help. Supposedly, from what I’ve read online and heard from my psychiatrist, GHB is actually one of the most effective sleep-inducing medications that exist, which is partly because it induces “deeper” and more “useful” sleep, unlike benzos and other drugs. Apparently in this regard, some consider it a miracle drug… But the reason why it’s not more prevalent is due to the “date rape” stigma and associated FDA scheduling; even though it’s only a “Schedule III” controlled substance, there is special legislation regarding its distribution (for example, I think one of the prerequisites is an overnight sleep study, which many people can’t afford or don’t have time for). It’s also an “orphan” drug, so Big Pharma doesn’t have much monetary incentive to promote it. Anyway, just something I thought I’d suggest to anyone with long-standing, untreatable sleep issues… Check it out, do a little research and ask your doctor about it, especially if you’re lucky enough to have health insurance (it’s obscenely expensive).
