Managing editor Rick Stengel called the now-infamous cover “whimsical” on Morning Joe today. That word does not mean what he thinks it means.

That Time cover certainly was provocative — and maybe also upsetting, weird, and inflammatory. For a certain subset of attachment parenting devotees, it may have been empowering. But whimsical?
This ring inside its very own handcarved walnut is whimsical.
So is this hot air balloon made of dandelion seeds and a top hat.

A tiny Cinderella carriage is super whimsical.
Whimsy can come in many forms, really.
But this is just not whimsical. Sorry.
