American Dads Think Moms Shouldn’t Work
Seventy-eight percent of dads say moms shouldn’t work full-time.
A large majority of dads think it’s best for kids if moms don’t work full-time, and almost 40% of them believe moms shouldn’t work outside the home at all, according to a report released Thursday.
The study, by the Pew Research Center, found that moms have very different ideas of how much they should work. Close to 40% want to work full-time.
The researchers apparently did not ask how much dads should work.

noellejb 2 months agoI wouldn’t WANT to stay home if I had a child. I’m sorry, but I like my job, I like socializing outside of the house, and I feel like I’ve earned my education and I want to use it. Good for SAHMs, but from my POV, I did not go to college and get an MBA to spend 3 years falling behind the curve career-wise because of my “biological clock”.

petitestephi 2 months agoEh, if I ever have children I hope I would be able to take a break from my career to raise my children. Nothin wrong with that

Isandriena 2 months agoI don’t currently have children, but I know that I won’t be going back to work full time once I have a baby. I work in a nursery, and there is no way that I am letting someone else look after my child more than I do. I’d go part time so that they could socialise with other children, but I couldn’t go full time.

stephanieh57 2 months agoI think it’s interesting that they only questioned working mothers… I’m a stay at home mom and I have plenty of friends who are as well. Wouldn’t want it any other way!

jahrens 2 months agoMy ex wanted me to stay at home, I told where to go and how to get there. By best friends husband stayed home instead of her. So to each their own. I think it’s good for the kids to be able to go on their own and play with other kids. My daughter gets bored out of her mind with me that I have to take her to play with other kids. One year off was good enough for me (I live in Canada and we get a payed year off, well 60% of what our income was).

Christina O. 2 months agoBefore I had children, I would have responded to this article in a defensive manner. However, after I had my daughter, my mindset changed significantly. I hate that I have to PAY someone else to take care of my child—I am handing over my parental duties to someone else. I also believe that for new mothers, it is important for them to stay home, especially for breastfeeding mothers. It is VERY unfortunate that men can’t do this task for us, but the reality of the situation is that mothers are required to be next to their child in order to breast feed their children, if breast feeding is chosen. It is also extremely important to note that while it is best for either parent to stay home, it is an unfortunately reality that there are often 2 incomes needed, especially at a time when salaries have lowered, but the cost of living has risen.

Ejacobs182 2 months agoTo be fair, they asked what the best situation for the kid was, not what they wanted. The best situation for a child WOULD be to have a stay at home mom, or even a stay at home dad (Parrish the thought!) they also didn’t ask about fathers, so this kind of seems like something someone who was looking for trouble might post.

frankenmouse 2 weeks agoYes, but they also have one less person to worry about expenses (food, clothing, car, etc.) for. That’s why I, as a single person, can live quite comfortably off of $25K per year, while my friends with a hubby and two kids would not be able to do so.
