A Third Of Americans Think Horsemeat Should Be Fed To Poor
But only 13% would eat it themselves.
German politicians got in trouble recently for suggesting that meat products containing horsemeat be donated to the poor — but according to a survey, 32% of Americans also think this is a good strategy. Giving horsemeat to poor people was actually more popular with respondents than throwing it away, which just 30% endorsed.
The survey, conducted by market research firm YouGov, also looked at which non-standard meats Americans would consider consuming:
Those disturbed by Americans’ comfort level with feeding horse to the needy (despite the fact that only 13% would eat it themselves) may take comfort in the fact that only 1,000 people participated in the survey. But YouGov says its samples are nationally representative, so a wider canvassing might have revealed the same thing.

Bobbie Mullins 2 months agoEveryone talks about horse “meat” like it just magically appears without having to be separated from a living horse first. Horse slaughter his horrendous. One might argue that all slaughter is horrendous, but horses have it particularly bad because they are transported hundreds of miles across the border to Canada and Mexico. One investigation documented that the horses were never fed or watered or off-loaded once during a 2-day journey. Investigators at a Canadian slaughterhouse saw a horse get shot 11 times with a stun gun before the horse collapsed. Many of these horses are “retired” racehorses, who made thousands or even millions of dollars for their owners. What a nice way to repay them for their service.

It’s not like they’re advocating that you TRICK “the poor” into eating it. Of COURSE it is better for edible food to go towards preventing starvation than to be thrown away and allowed to rot.
