19 Times Amy Poehler Was Hilarious, Feminist, And Perfect

It's Amy Poehler's birthday today. This is why she's perfect.

    1. When she gave the perfect response to an interviewer who complained about men feeling the need to be "cool" and "adorkable" at the same time.

    2. All the times she gave the best advice to teenage girls.

Amy: "The earlier you learn that you should focus on what you have and not obsess about what you don't have, the happier you will be."

    3. When she dropped some fucking TRUTH about feminism and the media.

Amy: "Sometimes when people don't identify themselves as feminists it's like saying, 'I like cars, I think they're great, I use one every day, it gets me from place to place but I'm not gonna go on record and say that cars are good. But that being said, this discussion about who is and isn't a feminist is yet another example of media trying to bite us, to take us and split us apart and argue among each other. I think we need to continue as women to celebrate what we have in common and share and stop letting society focus on how we're different."

    4. When she shut down the idea that as a "Catholic girl" she shouldn't be "dirty."

    5. When she (as Leslie Knope) absolutely wrecked a fellow city council member.

    NBC

Councilman Milton: "I believe one problem with hiring women is that they're frail and breakable."

Leslie: "Is it possible you're thinking about lightbulbs? Or your hip?"

    6. When she took a common sexist question and turned it into something hilarious.

Interviewer: How are you balancing motherhood and your job?

Amy: "As a twerking mother, balance is really important. Because you don't wanna go too low and blow out your butt or bust your knees. What I do is that I don't bring my boys with me when I'm twerking because I want to keep my twerk and my boys separated."

    7. And when she (as Leslie Knope) gave blanket answers to every sexist question that she's probably had to answer in real life.

Leslie: "Why did I change my hairstyle? Oh, I don't know, I decided it would look better. Or my kids got gum in it. 'Are you trying to have it all?' That question makes no sense. It's a stupid question. Stop asking it. 'Do you miss your kids while you're at work?' Yes, of course I do. Everybody does. And then, you know, sometimes I don't."

Ben: "And by the way, no one's ever asked me that question. No one's ever asked me, 'Where are your kids?" and, 'Who's taking care of them?"

    8. And then followed that up by destroying some whiny protesters.

    9. When she shut down any questions about her body...even from Elmo.

Interviewer: "Do you have any red carpet diets that you go through?"

    Amy: "No."

    10. When she freed young girls up from this terrible burden.

Amy: "Girls, if boys say something that is not funny, you don't have to laugh."

    11. When she accidentally stole Seth Meyer's credit card and made the best of it.

Seth: "I realized that when we got the cards back we switched them. So I text Poehler to let her know and all she wrote back was, 'I just bought a boat.'"

    12. When she answered this very important question with the careful thought it deserved.

Amy: "I'm gonna say I'd rather make out with Santa Claus, because Jesus is really hot and I feel like Santa Claus would appreciate it more. Jesus is like beating them off with a stick and then turning that stick into a snake and Santa Claus has been married for a long time. I've always sensed him and his wife have an open relationship. I mean that's why they're so happy."

    13. When she reminded us of the people we should surround ourselves with.

Amy: "As I get older I realize that I...am old. But I also realize I don't know very much and all I have is the present moment. I want to be around people that do things. I don't want to be around people that judge or talk about what people do. I want to be around people who dream and support and do things.

    14. When she revealed that she plays games the same way we all do.

Amy: "I think I'm a fun gamer because usually about halfway through it I get too drunk and I kinda forget the rules."

    15. When she changed the way we think about getting old.

Amy: You should be able to say, 'Look how old I am, isn't that great?' And instead people are always denying how old they are. I mean even with age in our culture, women don't want to say how old they are. It's so weird, when instead you should be proud, right?

    16. When she left a note in Jimmy Fallon's couch for Rashida Jones to read the next night.

    17. When she reminded us to be kind to ourselves.

Amy: "When someone gives you a compliment, try to say thank you. Period. It's really hard to just say thank you and not make an excuse."

    18. When she reminded us of this very important fact.

    19. And finally, when she told us how to just be awesome people.

Amy: Opening your heart and being courageous, and telling people that you care about them or like them or that you think they're special only makes you a better, bigger, kinder, softer, more loving person and it only attracts more love into your life."
