Westboro Baptist Church Members Say They Will Protest In Sandy Hook
Members reported on Twitter that they would protest Sandy Hook Elementary School. Reddit members have already begun planning a counter protest.
July 22: People lock arms to prevent members of the Westboro Baptist Church from attending a memorial service outside the Aurora Municipal Center in Colorado.
Less than a day after the tragic shooting in Sandy Hook, Connecticut that claimed the lives of 20 children and six adults, members of the Westboro Baptist Church are already announcing plans to protest during and after President Obama’a visit on Sunday. The hate group is best known for its protest of the funerals of U.S. service members.
“Westboro will picket Sandy Hook Elementary School to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment,” Shirley Phelps-Roper, a member of the church, tweeted.
Another member of the church, Abigail Ruth Phelps tweeted “I will show this sign to President Obama tomorrow.” Jael Holroyd also announced her intentions to protest.
Members of the website Reddit announced their intent to form a silent blockade to counter protest the church.
The White House announced on Saturday that President Obama would travel to Newtown, CT Sunday and meet with the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shootings along with first responders.
Update
The hacker group Anonymous targeted the Westboro Baptist Church website after members announced plans to protest in Sandy Hook. The group released all of the personal information of members of the church.

docreegs 5 months agoTo the folks writing that the Westboro Baptist Church does not represent God or “Christian values “, I’m sorry , but that is quite incorrect . They are very much representative of the God of the bible, as well as Jesus , who endorsed him wholeheartedly . The god of the bible is the most unpleasant character in all of fiction . A petty , jealous ,vindictive , unjust , unforgiving , control freak . A bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser . A homophobic , mysogynistic , racist , genocidal , infanticidal , filicidal , pestilential , sadomasochistic , malevolent bully. The Westboro Baptist Church represents this God quite well .

Dear World, I’d like to say once and for all something that is probably already assumed but needs to be said. The people from this “church” are psychos and are using the Christian religion as a front for their psychosis. They are not Christians in any sense and do not follow a Christian doctrine. I’m sure you have a major sense of disappointment and disgust for their behavior as all people with a heart and human emotion would. I’m with you. Props to Redditors for taking care of this situation, they do an awful lot of nice things these days. So thanks world for not hating on all Christians for one gigantic group of sicko’s hateful and degrading actions. We should do this for all religious persons. Just remember that in this world there is only one way to judge people and that’s based only on their character. Redditors do your thing!

Xerdo Pwerko 5 months agoReally, can the people over there not organise a mob and simply lynch Phelps and his ilk? If you attack them and they don’t die, they sue and keep existing, so maybe somebody should just exterminate all of them. Nobody in the world would be against some good old mob violence here. Maybe set them on fire with a petrol-filled tyre around their neck, like in Nigeria.

lindsayb14 5 months agoGod has no baring on the actions of people. Freewill and all. He can only hope that his people will respond in a manner of love not hate. Healing, not more pain. These people are trying to provoke negative reactions and in stead of threating them with violence (which is really stupid by the way on a public forum) why not meet them with the knowledge that they are not provoking such reactions. The silent protection line is wonderful. It is people not allowing more evil to touch the lives of so many who will never recover from such tragity……How do you recover from this?

They aren’t affiliated with any real churches or legitimate leaders. Evil loves them for their actions and turning people off to God. They should be called Westboro Satan’s Church. Wake up people, these are NOT Christians!

Summer Anne Burton 5 months agoThe first amendment protects their “protests,” but it wouldn’t stop Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube from banning them if they wanted to and could figure out how to implement it. Websites, like businesses, can ban whoever they want as long as it’s not based on race, gender, age, sexual orientation, etc.

Malakai 5 months agoIf they plan on actually trying to hinder the President in his going to offer some comfort to the families in this time of tragedy, I don’t often say this but I would hope that the Secret Service would take their threats seriously and arrest the pack of them for at least 24 hours. Freedom of speech is all fine and good but to insult the President and to diminish the loss of 20 children and 6 faculty… that’s blasphemy and sedition at the very least.
