Westboro Baptist Church Members Say They Will Protest In Sandy Hook
Members reported on Twitter that they would protest Sandy Hook Elementary School. Reddit members have already begun planning a counter protest.
July 22: People lock arms to prevent members of the Westboro Baptist Church from attending a memorial service outside the Aurora Municipal Center in Colorado.
Less than a day after the tragic shooting in Sandy Hook, Connecticut that claimed the lives of 20 children and six adults, members of the Westboro Baptist Church are already announcing plans to protest during and after President Obama’a visit on Sunday. The hate group is best known for its protest of the funerals of U.S. service members.
“Westboro will picket Sandy Hook Elementary School to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment,” Shirley Phelps-Roper, a member of the church, tweeted.
Another member of the church, Abigail Ruth Phelps tweeted “I will show this sign to President Obama tomorrow.” Jael Holroyd also announced her intentions to protest.
Members of the website Reddit announced their intent to form a silent blockade to counter protest the church.
The White House announced on Saturday that President Obama would travel to Newtown, CT Sunday and meet with the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shootings along with first responders.
Update
The hacker group Anonymous targeted the Westboro Baptist Church website after members announced plans to protest in Sandy Hook. The group released all of the personal information of members of the church.

SoftShakes 5 months agoWBC is not representative of Christians and especially not Baptists. This is a “religious” extremist group. They are as dangerous to our society as other extremist sects of other religions. It’s sad to see people look to them and assume that is representative of religious people of any faith. This is clearly a cult, an it saddens me that they claim to do “God’s work”

To go so far as to disrespect the beautiful little ones and educators whose lives were claimed in this horrific act, in the name of “god”??? I only wish I could be there for the counter protest and take these assholes signs and shove them up their asses!!! What if it had been their children??

chriss75 5 months agoi’ve been to baptist churches all my life and i’ve been in lots of bars too. i’ve talked to god and set next to satan but i’ve never in my life seen a bunch of hateful satanist people that could protest the lost of innocent childrens life and solders that are protecting our freedom. they need to take the name baptist off this church and call it a cult. because a christian would not protest an innocent childs funeral. to the westboro baptist church may you all burn in hell.

Can we not just mourn the loss of twenty little kids, and six adults, that perished ? At least give them that, before we start fighting again? This is so terribly wrenching for all those that have lost someone. Please respect them, if just for today.

Why is it always insane people shooting innocents?! This group of insane protesters will be locked arm in arm exclaiming this horrific shooting was God’s will. Perfect chance for a sane individual to shoot a group of insane, worthless nuts. Let’s see how much they believe its God’s will when the gun is pointed at them….idiots

lyndseym 5 months agothey can’t be charged with harassment. they have a right to peaceably assemble and protest. it’s in the constitution. just like all of us sane people can do the same. I have faith that they will be denied just like in Texas. if I was close enough I’d be there in a heartbeat.
