Westboro Baptist Church Members Say They Will Protest In Sandy Hook
Members reported on Twitter that they would protest Sandy Hook Elementary School. Reddit members have already begun planning a counter protest.
July 22: People lock arms to prevent members of the Westboro Baptist Church from attending a memorial service outside the Aurora Municipal Center in Colorado.
Less than a day after the tragic shooting in Sandy Hook, Connecticut that claimed the lives of 20 children and six adults, members of the Westboro Baptist Church are already announcing plans to protest during and after President Obama’a visit on Sunday. The hate group is best known for its protest of the funerals of U.S. service members.
“Westboro will picket Sandy Hook Elementary School to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment,” Shirley Phelps-Roper, a member of the church, tweeted.
Another member of the church, Abigail Ruth Phelps tweeted “I will show this sign to President Obama tomorrow.” Jael Holroyd also announced her intentions to protest.
Members of the website Reddit announced their intent to form a silent blockade to counter protest the church.
The White House announced on Saturday that President Obama would travel to Newtown, CT Sunday and meet with the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shootings along with first responders.
Update
The hacker group Anonymous targeted the Westboro Baptist Church website after members announced plans to protest in Sandy Hook. The group released all of the personal information of members of the church.

Bridiee 6 months agoWestboro Baptist Church does these inflammatory protests to provoke local authorities into taking steps to prevent them from protesting, then they sue the municipalities for impeding their right to free speech. They have made millions in settlements and awards this way, which makes them even greater scum the. Most people realize.

frannh 6 months agoIt’s against the law to yell fire in a public space. It’s against the law to involve oneself in a hate crime. Well I can’t think of anything more hateful than allowing these nonhumans to disrupt the burial the 20 precious babies and 6 heroes gunned down by a person of the same caliber as the Westboro Cult members. If that isn’t considered a hate crime then I sure as heck don’t know what is!

lochereelynnw 6 months agoI can’t understand how people can be so cruel, to want to do something like this when parents, friends, and all family members are grieving. I cried when I saw all the lives taken away, for what? Why would people use this as a time to do more harm and be more hurtful? I am not the most religious person, and I will never claim to be, but I am most positive that it is not God’s work they are doing, if that is what they are claiming. It just makes me wonder what we are in for in the days ahead. Love to the families who have been hurt by this and I hope their hearts can heal.

These are my feelings exactly. When I read about what westborough plans to do, I literally felt sick, I got an adrenaline rush and was shaking because I was so disgusted. The sickest part is that they are doing this in the name of God. They would have really fit in great during the inquisition! The only thing that makes me feel better is that the majority of the population finds this as disgusting as I do.

normajeang 6 months agowtf is wrong with people that could actually be so selfish to put there own selfish needs and wants before the needs of those broken hearted folks who have lost so much, who are and should be what matters right now !! Not them ,not There stupid shit,i feels so sorry for them because it has to take a special kind of selfish to do this in such a horrible time for those poor families that lost so much and that are going through possibly the worst time in there lives. Get a grip people this is a time to put all that down and focus on caring about those folks in Newtown, CT AND THATS ALL.

The Westboro baptist church has only about 40 members. Their leader, Fred phelps, is a disbarred lawyer. The members of his congregation are mostly his kids and his grand children. I watched a documentary about them not too
long ago and they basically brainwash all of the children from a really young age into hating everyone and everything. I just thought everyone should know its not a church of like thousands… It’s relatively little and ran by one old kook and his family. -

sherylseaberts 6 months agoPart of the problem with our society, is that we sensationalize the killer. We very rarely hear about the people that were killed, other than they were children, teens or adults. We need to keep the names of murderers out of the news and keep them basically out of the news so we don’t sensationalize them. That is partly what he and others like him want. We need to remember the victims names not the murderers. To raise them above this killer, not bury them on page 10 or the last message in the news.
