Republican Congressman: I Learned More From The News Than From Homeland Security About Boston

The Obama Administration is only giving members of Congress "trickles" of information about the Boston bombing according to Republican Congressman James Lankford of Oklahoma. The Congressman said in an interview with KFOR, NBC's Oklahoma City affiliate, that information he got from the news was better than that which he received during a classified briefing with Homeland Security head Janet Napolitano last Wednesday.

"There's a special group that's the Intelligence Committee they get briefings," Lankford said. "But I was actually in a classified briefing last Wednesday, where it was a closed door, classified, — they reassured us this is top secret information classified for the bombing — I learned more from the news that night than I learned from my briefing with Janet Napolitano earlier that day. So the administration is very closed with the Congress as well giving us only trickles of information often times. So that's part of our frustation, going back to Homeland Security and demanding we get information that we as representatives of the community deserved to get."

Lankford added that it was difficult to make decisions based off information that was not timely or accurate.

"Difficult (to make decisions) if it (information) is not correct and if it is not timely," Lankford responded a question.

House Speaker John Boehner said Monday that the House would investigate whether the Federal Bureau of Investigation should have looked into bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev more thoroughly after it received concerns from Russia that Tsarnaev might be planning to participate in terrorist activities.
