Mumbai Comic-Con To Have A "Star Wars" Zone, Complete With The Bridge Of A Star Destroyer

"The zone is designed to resemble the bridge of a star destroyer with snazzy and futuristic display, equipped with Star Wars weapons, character figurines and inspired art," Abhishek Maheshwari, Disney India spokesperson.

The third edition of the Mumbai Comic-Con is all set to have a one of its kind Star Wars experiential zone this year.

The zone, which is a designed replica of the bridge of an Imperial class Star Destroyer, will also feature authentic Star Wars weapons, character figurines, as well as inspired art.

There will be lightsabers available for fans to pose with, limited edition merchandise, and collectables available as well.

About why they decided to have a Star Wars zone, Abhishek Maheshwari, Disney India spokesperson told BuzzFeed in an email: "There are few, if any, movies in history that can claim to have an iconic status similar to that of Star Wars. The unique storytelling of good versus evil in the six episode movie series clubbed with the rich world of characters, has inspired millions of fans around the world and in India too. What most fans want is a channel to admire or, for some, idolise the heroes, villains and the whole premise of Star Wars."

He also added that through the Mumbai Comic-Con, Disney hopes to provide a unique opportunity to introduce the Star Wars brand to the new generation and also engage the existing fans.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens, set to release in December 2015 is already touted as the biggest instalment for next year and the recent 88 seconds teaser trailer released on Nov 28, has really taken the fans excitement to the next level. So it was very important to keep the momentum going and we feel Comic Con is one of the most interesting platforms to present the franchise, as its a celebration of some of the greatest stories inspired by comic books and biggest congregation of fans of these stories."

"The idea to set up the zone has been in the planning phase for about two months, and setting up the zone will take over 48 hours," told Maheshwari in his email to BuzzFeed.

Further in the email, he told that as the iconic saga has a massive following across the world, as well as in India, to recreate the epic saga experiential, Disney felt it was very important to keep in mind the fans expectations and ensure to bring alive the zone and make it larger than life.
