Aaliyah's Family Reportedly Not Backing Down From Biopic Feud

Can't we all just try (again) to get along...

On the tails of major casting news for Lifetime's upcoming biopic chronicling R&B powerhouse Aaliyah, the late star's family has stepped forward denouncing the network's plan to move forward with filming this Summer.

Disney actress Zendaya, 17, has been cast to portray Aaliyah, whose unexpected 2001 death in a plane crash left millions of fans grieving. Zendaya seems genuinely thrilled and passionate on both a personal and professional level about landing the role, but not everyone is as excited about the project to come to fruition.

Aaliyah's uncle and former manager, Barry Hankerson, expressed frustration about a lack of involvement in the film, which he doesn't think Lifetime has a right to make in the first place.

TMZ is reporting that Hankerson has vowed to stonewall production by limiting access to his niece's music, undoubtedly a huge aspect of the script.

It's hard to imagine an accurately-told story of Aaliyah's life not prominently featuring her angelic voice and infectious sass, so let's hope they arrive at a compromise that satisfies both her family members and her fans.
