What about the fact that there are different silverware for different parts of the meal? Also what about the fact that there ARE different types of soup bowls based on what you are eating - deeper bowls for more broth intensive soups to keep the liquid temperature hot etc. Look at how high-end chefs/restaurants use plating techniques to both enhance the presentation AND the quality of the dish. There’s certainly no need to abide by ANY of these rules, but people have made glassware and tested them for specific drinks. Wouldn’t you WANT the proper glass for your martini so it doesn’t get warm? Also, just because you don’t care doesn’t mean you have to be a god damn internet troll.

Wrong, because your soup is still in a bowl. I’m not saying you should drink your beer off of a serving platter. Rules for glassware is like saying there are appropriate bowls for certain soups. Square bowls for cream-based soups, round glass bowls for vegetable-only soups. Then you’ve got your shallow rectangular bowls for soups with large chunks and everyone knows that it enhances the flavor and experience of eating noodle soups if served in a an oval-shaped bowl with scalloped edges.

The same reason that, when eating a meal, you don’t shove the food into your mouth with whatever tool is closest and you don’t plate the food on whichever dish is at hand.  just like eating your soup from a bowl with a spoon is far more enjoyable than eating it off of a plate with a fork, drinking your beverage from the appropriate glass enhances the experience.
