Pinterest Founder Nukes His Own Account

amberh8 a year agoOk serious question (and I apologize for coming off dumb) but since the pins lead back to the source how are they violating copyright? Wouldn’t it be the same as bookmarking a page? It’s not like when you claim something it yours; you just want to get back to that page/outfit/blog later.

theOnlyAether a year agoI actually don’t think that it is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfect_10,_Inc._v._Amazon.com,_Inc. At worst it’s just hotlinking, but maybe Pinterest caches content locally? Maybe they’re idiots? Maybe they’re scared crapless of Operation in Our Sites?

lizb17 a year agoIf the poster is linking directly from the original copyright holder, then there may be no copyright issues. Unfortunately, much of the content on the web does not link directly to the copyright owner. So, for example, if you see a picture you like on a blog that does not report the original source, and you pin the photo from the blog, the photo hosted on Pinterest will be in violation of copyright, even though it links back to the blog.
