(Apologies if this is a double post. I’m not sure about the previous one being successfully posted) I’m not a fan of belt drive turntables since I’m very picky about speed accuracy. So, the best option ever for me (and many others) is a Technics SL-1200. Sadly, it was discontinued in late 2010 and there are lots of people who, like me, aren’t willing to take the risk of buying an used electronic appliance without testing it first. So, if you are looking for a brand-new direct drive TT, the absolute best option currently in the market is one of the so-called Super OEM turntables, and specifically two models: Either the Numark TTXUSB or the Audio-Technica AT-LP1240-USB. The only thing I think it could be improved on those is the tonearm (which isn’t bad anyway), but aside from that they are truly terrific machines at a very good price. You can even play 78 RPM records on them, something that the Technics can’t do without modifying it (unless you have an SL-1200 MK4, which was released in Japan only). I have a Numark TTXUSB and I am extremely happy with it.
