Hit TV Show Characters You Really Want To Slap

Good TV shows give you characters you love to hate. But sometimes you start to hate them a little too much

1. Cersei Lannister (Game of Thrones)

Every good epic tale has villains. The problem with Cersei Lannister is she lacks the one thing that makes a good villain compelling: depth. She's not particularly intelligent or conniving, she is not even remotely sympathetic, and she's just plain nasty. She uses her sexuality to essentially play a dumbed-down Regina George of King's Landing. Also, homegirl threw a hissy fit and insisted that Ned slaughter his daughter's pet wolf because it's sister wolf bit her evil spawn, Joffrey while defending the Stark girls. To top to it off, she frequently has a really smug, not even remotely deserved self-satisfied grin on her face that just really grinds your gears. Plus she has three children with her twin brother. If that doesn't give you a case of the blecks, I don't know what will.

2. Kate Beckett (Castle)

It is legitimately hard to even be in the same room when this character is on the TV screen. Her character is truly insufferable. Not only is Kate Beckett COMPLETELY not credible as a cop, but her "banter" with partner in crime (as well as her on-screen love interest, Castle) is pretentious, not sexy, and again, not credible. It also doesn't help that Stana Katic, who plays the detective is not a very convincing actor, lacking both depth and honesty in her portrayal.

3. Ted Mosby (How I Met Your Mother)

For 9 seasons we've been deeply invested in Ted finding and falling in love with the proverbial Mother. When we finally met her this season, some viewers had to be thinking: "Wow. She's actually way too good/cool for him." Ted takes 9 years to tell story that could probably be told in 20 minutes. He's also clingy, whiny, co-dependent, way too hung-up on Robin for years after he should have moved on, and he's kind of pretentious (read: pronounces the word "Encyclopedia" as "Encyclop-AY-dia".) His voice apparently also winds up turning into Bob Saget's voice when he hits a certain age which is weird. It's been 9 years, Ted. Please stop talking.

4. Melissa Hastings (Pretty Little Liars)

Spencer Hasting's older sister is CRAY. She not only faked a pregnancy for months but conspired against Spencer and her friends with Mona and the A Team to cover it up. She also chose her husband (a suspected killer and caught-red-handed cheater who liked to secretly videotape underage girls undressing) over her own sister because of some unresolved sibling rivalry. Also there's a really good chance that she bashed in the skull of an innocent girl the night Ali disappeared.

5. Abby (NCIS)

Yes, she's supposed to be the quirky, goth, bubbly and lovable scientist who somehow manages to handle the processing of all evidence, but let's face it: Abby's trying to hard to be adorable. Her caffeine-addled perkiness is not endearing; it's actually quite irritating. You're solving murders, girl...it's called reverence and professionalism. And speaking of which...sorry Abby, but the jet-black greasy pigtails needed to go LONG before you hit forty. Having watched other forensic shows, viewers might also be irked that while other crime labs have multiple CSU experts processing evidence from blood-spatter to trace to matching bullets to their striations, Abby seems to be able to single-highhandedly do ALL of these things all at once, as well has have the knowledge of pretty much everything. And you simply can't drink enough "Caf-POW!" to be able to accomplish that.

6. Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory)

Don't get me wrong. Sheldon Cooper is played masterfully by the talented Jim Parsons, and a huge percentage of the show's comedic gold is tied into Sheldon and his idiosyncrasies butting heads with the other characters and life in general. But there comes a point where you have to ask: who the hell would put up with someone as sanctimonious, condescending and rigidly stubborn for no (real) reason? As much as we are amused by Sheldon's quirks and appreciate when he strays from them into momentary normalcy, we kind of wish one of the other BBT characters would give him a big fat reality slap in the face.

7. Rachel Berry (Glee)

Rachel Berry is. the. worst. She's a diva. She's got a huge ego. She has exactly one doe-eyed look that she uses over and over again, and she takes huge. gasping. breaths. between lines of songs. (Now try listening to her sing anything from now and not notice the ragged breathing. Just try.) Go away, Rachel.

8. Mary Margaret Blanchard (Once Upon a Time)

Not to be confused with her wonderful, kick-ass Enchanted Forrest alter ego Snow White, Mary Margaret Blanchard is sadly, very wet-blankety. Yes, it is nice that in an age of cynicism there are still characters who are steadfastly optimistic and always do what's right, but Mary Margaret is just a tad too sugary-sweet, even for a show immersed in a fairy tale. Unlike her persona in the Enchanted forest, Mary Margaret isn't nearly as gutsy and spirited. She just seems to exist in Storybrooke as Snow White's real world self but with none of her fire and way too much "Just believe and everything will be alright!"

9. Peter Griffin (Family Guy)

There's a good possibility that the patriarch of the Griffin family might actually be the least funny. It's been 12 seasons and essentially what's supposed to be funny about Peter is that is morbidly, painfully stupid. But it goes beyond that. He's annoying. He's fails spectacularly at being a husband and father, and while we have come to know what to expect in terms of Family Guy's humor, Peter's profound idiocy has started to get kind of old. Seriously, how did he convince Lois to marry him, let alone stay with him for so many years and 3 kids?

10. Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood)

This is a hard one because you can't help but love and route for Sookie. On the other hand, she has made one uber-stupid decision after another, she always seems to be caught in a love triangle, and she puts herself into danger situations and then gets mad at all the supernatural beings around her for complicating her life. Yes, she's a strong female lead character. No, she hasn't made any good life choices since maybe Season 3. Wake up, Sookie!

11. Marnie Michaels (Girls)
