The political world may have found a new star.

In August, North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory signed into law a controversial voter ID bill that made it harder for young people to register to vote, and prohibited preregistration of 16 and 17-year-olds.

Over the past months, thousands have protested the law, and on Monday 12-year-old Madison Kimrey gave an impassioned speech against the bill at a Burlington, N.C., rally.

"We young people have a serious leadership problem here in North Carolina," she said.

"I wanted to meet with our governor to discuss pre-registration, but he called my request 'ridiculous' and called me a prop for liberal groups," said Kimrey.

"This is not leadership. The young people of North Carolina deserve better. I am not a prop. I am part of the new generation of suffragists."

"I will not stand silent while laws are passed to reduce the amount of voter turnout in my home state."

"I'm going to do everything I can to get the opportunity for North Carolina's teenagers to pre-register by the time I turn 16 in four years, but I can't do it alone... Young people: our state needs you."
