    1. "Favorite" the things you like and put them in your cart.

    Click the heart icon and add things to your cart to show that you are a serious shopper. "Sellers will sometimes circle back to buyers to see if they're still interested in the item," founder of savings blog BargainBabe.com Julia Scott tells BuzzFeed Life. "You can use this opportunity to start a conversation about whether or not they are willing to negotiate on price or if the seller will be conducting a sale anytime soon."

    2. Sort items by "lowest price" before you start searching.

    Click on the "sort by" drop-down menu on the upper right-hand side so you can see your least expensive options first.

    3. Type the word "sale" into the search box with whatever it is you're looking for.

    Instead of searching "bacon shirt," try "sale bacon shirt" to see what your cheaper options look like.

    4. Put a cap on how much you want to spend.

    After you've clicked on the "search" button, input your price range into the price filter on the left-hand side to make sure you're only seeing products within your budget.

    5. Select "choose a custom location" to shop from sellers in your area...

    Input your location into the search box on the bottom left-hand side to find nearby shops and you can negotiate shipping fees.

    6. Or click "shop local".

    Listed under "More Ways To Shop" on the homepage's right-hand side, this link allows you to filter results by your location. Maybe you can pick an item up in-person or pay less for shipping.

    7. Thoroughly check your packages.

    "Whenever I buy an item from Etsy, I'll usually find a coupon inside the package," says Scott. "Use it on your next purchase, especially if it's a pricier one."

    8. Join their mailing list.

    "Message a seller and ask to be added to their mailing list," Scott says. "Some sellers email out a bunch of coupons for their shops."

    9. If you are a seller, see if you can partner with another shop.

    If you share a similar aesthetic as another store (or if you, say, make necklace chains and someone else makes original beads), see if you can help promote each other on social media and strike up a relationship. Maybe you can make a deal where you both get discounts on the other's merch.

    10. Follow them on Instagram to learn about last-minute sales.

    12. Consider overlooking sponsored items.

    Sponsored items—which occupy the first row of results and have a tiny "ad" logo in the corner of each photo—cost the seller money. The cost may cause them to increase the prices of their items.
