Australian Treasurer Dodges Questions By Teasing Babyfaced Young Journos

"Get a look at his face, look at this, look at this!"

Late yesterday, the treasurer was ambushed in the parliament hallways by a few young reporters looking for a comment on the GST and marriage equality. But the treasurer wanted to talk about other things.

"God you guys, look how young you are, are you eighteen?" asked Joe Hockey.

Sky News journalist James O'Doherty and ABC News journalist Matt Doran found themselves being quizzed by the treasurer about their age.

"I'm 24!" Matt Doran protested when he found the cameras pointed at him instead of the treasurer.

"Are you? I was about to ask for your ID," Mr Hockey said.

"Maybe I'm getting old, I mean I'm taking you seriously," he joked as he left.

Labor criticised the treasurer for "insulting" the journalists. Shadow treasury spokesperson Chris Bowen said it was "insulting their intelligence and their professionalism." But James O'Doherty has brushed it off, saying he wasn't offended.

@ljayes Agreed. He was filibustering as he walked down the corridor - nothing more!

Good to see that there are at least a few grown-ups in Parliament.
