Brother Of Bali Nine Smuggler Andrew Chan Denied Access Before Execution

Michael Chan is prevented from seeing the Australian death row prisoner in Indonesia before his execution.

Australian drug smugglers Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran were transferred Wednesday from Kerobokan jail under heavy police guard to the island prison where they will be executed.

Michael Chan, a brother of Andrew Chan, arrived at Kerobokan prison in Bali just before the transfer but he was denied access.

Video from ABC News shows Michael Chan attempting to see his brother one last time before being turned away by guards.

Devastated, Michael Chan walked away without speaking to the hordes of media gathered outside.

Michael has been vocal in the effort to save his brother, appearing just days ago on Indonesian television, pleading to president Joko Widodo to show mercy for the Bali Nine duo.

In the video Michael Chan apologises on behalf of Andrew and his family, saying "It has brought a lot of unnecessary shame to Indonesian people and their country".

He also thanks Indonesian officials for allowing the two to run classes for other prisoners and makes a final plea to the president to allow Andrew and Myuran to be models of rehabilitation.

"If you can just have a look and see that these two boys can be the prototype for combating drugs in Indonesia and rehabilitation. They have set a very good structure inside the prison. They have embraced Indonesian culture, the way of life and they are very sorry for the thing that they have done and the bad attention they have brought to the Indonesian country and its people. And we just hope you can give them a second chance and they can show you that they are sorry".
