Here's What Happened When White Actors Were Told To "Act Whiter"

    "Really round those vowels!"

Often enough, actors going through the audition process are encouraged to "act more ethnic" to get certain parts.

So what happens when the script is flipped and white actors are told to "act whiter" to get a part?

Liz Plank, host of Mic's Flip the Script series, and Broad City's Arturo Castro played casting directors for a day to find out.

They were looking for actors for a bit of "exotic flair," so directed them to try the scene a little "whiter."

Some of the actors really ran with it...

While others were a little more put off by the idea...

Luckily, the actors totally nailed this whole "white" thing.

And shared that they'd pretty much never been told to "act whiter" before.

Jokes aside, the experiment really just presents the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how Latinos (and others) are represented in film and on TV.

Especially when you're in a group that makes up about 17% of the U.S. population...

...but only 4.9% of movie characters across the 100 top-grossing films of 2013.
