People Are Responding To Donald Trump With "Periods Are Not An Insult"

    Let it flow.

As you may be aware (since nobody seems to be talking about anything else!), presidential candidate Donald Trump has come under fire for recent comments he made on CNN regarding Thursday's GOP debate moderator and Fox News host Megyn Kelly.

Speaking to Don Lemon about the debate, Trump said that Kelly had "blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever."

Trump's comment was widely interpreted as referencing menstruation, though he's doubled back and tweeted it was actually about Kelly's nose.

Re Megyn Kelly quote: "you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever" (NOSE). Just got on w/thought

But now people are tweeting at Trump and using the hashtag #PeriodsAreNotAnInsult:

.@realDonaldTrump been bleeding 3 days now, flow is slowing down a bit. soon the blood will take on a brownish hue. #periodsarenotaninsult

@realDonaldTrump thought you should know I'm on my period. Whoa, and still completely myself and functioning. #periodsarenotaninsult

@realDonaldTrump My coochie bleeds. I still get shit done. #periodsarenotaninsult

@realDonaldTrump hey guess what......? im on my period right now! #periodsarenotaninsult

And even people who don't get periods are chiming in:

    .@realDonaldTrump, i don't get a period but I also don't use that as an insult. πŸ’‹πŸš¨πŸŒ‹β—οΈπŸŒΉ #periodsarenotaninsult

The "Periods Are Not An Insult" campaign includes a website with templates for tweets -- and a glittery GIF:

The website and Twitter campaign were spearheaded by Amber Gordon, who launched the feminist site Femsplain earlier this year.

Gordon notes that the site, which was "whipped up in about an hour," goes beyond simply tweeting at Trump to also provide a place for people to share their own stories:

Because, after all, it's just a bodily function!
