Top 10 Things You Need To Know About The Library

Here are 10 important things you need to know about the Albert S. Cook Library at Towson University. Know your stuff so you can utilize these amazing resources!

1. Your own personal research assistants! Get help student to student with the A-LIST crew.

Our fellow A-LIST students are here to help you on your academic journey. If you need help starting your research paper, finding a book, or have any questions related to the library find them in their gold shirts on the reference desk on the 3rd floor or around the library. Appointments can be scheduled as well, students helping students.

2. Hidden gems within the library! STARBUCKS-COPIESPLUS-LAUNCHPAD

Cook library has many resources and services inside the library, did you know? You thirsty or need a quick snack while studying? We have a Starbucks in our library, problem one solved. You need to fax papers, resume paper, or copy or print papers in bulk? Copies plus is here to help, problem two solved. Do you have a business start-up? Are you an entrepreneur? Oh wait, we have Student Launch Pad, Problem three solved.

3. Dig up some amazing historical artifacts and treasures in the Special Collections and Archives department!

On the fifth floor of Cook we have our Special collections and Archives. Here you can find historical records and artifacts of the University dating back when Towson was a state normal (teaching) school until our status now as a metropolitan university.

4. Experts are waiting to help you succeed at the reference desk! No such thing as a stupid question!

Located on the third floor of the library here you can come with any questions pertaining to research papers, finding books in the library, and honestly any questions you have at all. A librarian, library associate, or A-LIST student will be here to assist you.

5. Free and easily accessible tutoring open to all students!

Located on the fifth floor room 524 is the Academic Achievement Center. Here you can schedule an appointment to get tutoring in any subject you need, free of charge. All you have to do is go online and schedule an appointment. Take advantage of your resources in college. Hours are M-F 8am-5pm; T & TH 8am-7pm.

6. We have librarians dedicated to helping YOU!

What’s your major? Did you know that you have a specific librarian here that is an expert on your field?!? You can contact your librarian and set up a meeting to get extra help on a project or paper! You can also chat with them on our instant messenger service located on the library’s website.

7. The Library Website has everything you need!

From here you can search and access journal articles, books, movies, and additional research materials. You can find helpful tips for students, information about library resources, and much more! Check it out.

8. Find thousands of books in “The Stacks”.

Don’t forget the books! Our “stacks” are located on the fourth and fifth floors. They are arranged by call numbers and are easy to find. To make your search quicker, you should know that floor 4 has call numbers beginning with N-Z and floor 5 has call numbers beginning with A-M.

9. Brand new 2nd Floor Study Spaces!

Lucky you! There are new group study spaces in the back on floor 2. This is a great place for you to do homework with friends, or work on a group project with your classmates! Oh and did we forget to mention that you can write on the walls?!?!

10. Access technological support and resources in OTS.
