She's been doing this for 15 years.
She told CNN she began the project after running away from home and working as an au pair in Germany.
She said: "Unconsciously, I was still looking for female ideals to inspire me. I took pictures of myself in different disguises. It was at around 1999 when the first series of self-portraits came to light."
At first, she worked with people she knew, but now she works with people from different walks of life.
She told CNN: "It is a very interesting experience, kind of hard to describe verbally. I somehow completely forget about myself."
As Jenna Garrett points out: "Pepe’s chameleon talents focus more on how relationships can utterly transform an individual than embodying specific female identities."
"Questions of origin, influence and choice all come into play, the 'what-if' manifesting in a sometimes comical, sometimes surreal interpretation of different paths we all could have taken."
