Man Arrested After Policewoman Shot And Injured In Leeds

A female police officer was shot in the Hyde Park area this morning.

Updated: Dec 4, 11:38 a.m. GMT: Police have arrested a man in connection with the shooting of a woman police officer in Leeds.


A 37-year-old man was arrested at 10:10am on Wood Lane in the Headingley area of the city and a firearm was recovered.

West Yorkshire Police released a photograph of a man they were looking for in connection with the incident. He is James Leslie, 37.

Two uniformed officers were attending a routine call to a disturbance shortly after 4am on Wednesday, when they were confronted by a man who fired at them.


One female officer received serious but non life-threatening injuries. A male officer was uninjured.

Assistant Chief Constable Geoff Dodd told Sky News the investigation was “still at an early stage”, and a police presence would remain in the area.


The officer has sustained a very serious injury and her wellbeing is of paramount importance to us. The thoughts of colleagues remain with the officer and her family at this very difficult time.
