A Man Went On Mumsnet To Explain The Internet And Got Completely Owned

Why would you think this was a good move?

Meet Blacklight. He wants to help the clueless female users of the information superhighway who have somehow managed to log on to Mumsnet!

And here are some replies he received within three minutes of that post:

    Oh boy.

    Oh boy.

    Oh boy.

It's not that no one wanted his help.

    This user was especially grateful.

Then they started posting links to things like videos of Chuckie Egg to remind Blacklight that women have been using computers for some time.

It was just possible our original poster was beginning to regret this.

In fact by this point the whole discussion was actually teetering on becoming a bit too geeky.

(Or nerdy, your mileage may vary).

Jen from The IT Crowd made her inevitable appearance on the thread.

And by now it was sort of divided between users sharing their memories of '80s and '90s computing and people telling the original poster to do one.

    Or doing both.

Whereupon someone pointed out Ada Lovelace was arguably the world's first computer programmer.

Anyway, that's why it wasn't a very good idea.
