My sympathies go out to both families. Regardless of the boy being a killer, he still has parents who also now grieve. That being said, this is exactly what you get when jocks are coddled, catered to, and put on a pedestal. They believe they can do no wrong because when they do, they’re always saved by daddy or coach. How many girl-beating jocks do we *not* hear about on the news because someone’s covered it up? So go ahead, jocks, kill a dog, rape a girl, or murder someone…it’s ok because you can throw a ball.

George Huguely is a graduate of the Landon school, in Bethesda, MD. I’m intimately familiar with that school, as I was accepted to both Landon and Saint Albans, which are rival all-boys schools in the DC area. And I mean 50-year longstanding primary rivals, with the annual homecoming game always against them, etc. I chose not to go to Landon because they recruit athletes, not students. They encourage aggressive behavior and foster an environment of ruthlessness in their students - in other words, it’s basically an entire school of bullies. It helps them greatly when it comes to football, but the fact that this boy has prior arrests for public intoxication and resisting arrest surprises me not at all. I lived less than a mile from the Landon campus, but I still drove into DC every morning for school, because I wouldn’t associate with those people if my life depended on it.

Chevy Chase and Cockeysville… are these real towns?

Comparing an alleged murderer to the falsely accused Duke players is pretty distasteful. While the Duke boys weren’t saints, they did not commit the crime they were accused of, and yet their reputations were destroyed. Dragging them into this is low.

” It’s Duke Lax meets the Yale Wall Girl, but with preppier names.”  While I certainly appreciate humor in the face of serious items as humor is a cozy defense mechanism, this is just tasteless and clearly lacking empathy. There is obviously nothing funny here, and for that I say shame.
