Emergency medical personnel are prone to having a strong tendency to gallows humor, but I have never known an EMT or paramedic to joke about matters concerning a child being maimed or killed. Those who are joking about this are shallow, immature individuals. Shame on you.

In defense of the jokers, some tragedies are so abstract to most people’s thinking that it’s hard to get perspective on it. Not everyone’s outrage meter is calibrated to something so bizarre.

I think this would would be one that I think should not be used as fodder for jokes. I agree that it is a tragic story as well as strong evidence of the incredible lack if availability of health and mental care. A child lost it’s life, and many people (including the mother) are heartbroken, traumatized and miserable. This is NOT FUNNY.
