Emergency medical personnel are prone to having a strong tendency to gallows humor, but I have never known an EMT or paramedic to joke about matters concerning a child being maimed or killed. Those who are joking about this are shallow, immature individuals. Shame on you.

In defense of the jokers, some tragedies are so abstract to most people's thinking that it's hard to get perspective on it. Not everyone's outrage meter is calibrated to something so bizarre.

Honestly? People are shocked, SHOCKED, to discover that something horrible is being poked fun of (on the internet, of all places.) Imagine what they'd say if they knew that the Holocaust and 9/11 are also routinely made the butt of jokes. I guess we'll just have to close The Internet. 

Clearly she was singing the “This Little Piggy” song, and things got waaaaay out of hand. Or nose. Or pineal gland. Still better than a Shoney's breakfast bar.

The real sad part is that on a planet with thousands of years of human history and over 6 billion people, it is far from the first time. Mental illness has always existed. Oh and I forgot to say “BRAINNNNSSS!!!!”

I think this would would be one that I think should not be used as fodder for jokes. I agree that it is a tragic story as well as strong evidence of the incredible lack if availability of health and mental care. A child lost it's life, and many people (including the mother) are heartbroken, traumatized and miserable. This is NOT FUNNY.

It is vitally important that we continue to deny that citizens need ready access to quality mental health care. As long as we make sure that the barriers to treatment are high enough, we can continue to be entertained by hilarious tragedies like this one.
