Whoa, she is not kidding around with that dress.
This is classic late’70’s/early 80’s prom at its finest! She shows some definite style and it’s not at all the traditional “wedding cake” prom dress of the day. Man, I’d really love to see the prom dresses of the women who called this trashy! And give me a break, she’s all of 17 or 18 and who among us really had style down pat at that age? I think it’s pretty awesome, and shows the future first lady’s exploration into style. Like AzSoccermom says, the fabrics of the day were awful, and I wonder how we didn’t either sweat to death or burst into flames with all the polyester!
That dress and hairdo makes me want to do a line of blow and roll around in roller skates all day! Then I get the Night Fever, Night Fever… we know how to do it!
you guys obviously are not children of the 80’s.
this is soooo 80’s, classic.
there was an interesting dichotomy about that era people don’t understand unless you were there to get it.
the clash between conservative & sexy.
notice the mature mother of the bride color of the gown-conservative, the splash of sexy is the slit.
look back, you will see poofy sleeves paired with lace.
shoulder pads with lingerie. the textiles used were garish! it wasn’t our fault it was what was hot/available.
shiny fabrics with patterns, synthetics. we were all so lucky to not have combusted.
