I was watching when this happened. It was crazy! AC risked his life to save this little boy, who for sure would have been worse off without AC's help. I applaud you Anderson. If you hadn't been there…I shudder to think. Keep up the good work! We need more people like you in this world.

Lacey you're wrong that Haitians are worried about violence relative to immediate concerns like water, food, and medicine. In fact the level of violent crime has dropped off a lot SINCE the earthquake. The idea that Haitians are dangerous to themselves and aid workers is a justification for the US to “play army” there and is literally murdering thousands of innocents as the aid the world is donating is not reaching people during the most critical time.

Everyone is getting angry at the relief workers but watching these videos you cannot deny that the panic these people are in is only helping to kill them faster. The folks in Haiti are all thinking about themselves and their families and the problems that they're going through. It's hard to think of anything else in a situation like that. The problem is that their one track minds and their violence is only making it more difficult to get the things that they need. It sounds easy to say but if they would behave in as orderly a manner as possible (not calling this an orderly situation by any means) instead of trying to be FIRST IN LINE help wouldn't be so difficult and dangerous to offer. I'm not saying that the reactions of these people to their situation is anything but completely human or that I might not act the same in a similar situation. All I'm saying is that you can't keep bitching out the relief workers, the people who actually ARE over there trying to help and get these people food and medical attention.

you people are pathetic… writing down your infuriated speeches about how unjust the world is and how unfortunate the situation in haiti is… all i see is a bunch of hypocritical blabber, i live in the dominican republic, i live to see this situation every, single, day. And it has been going on well before the three earthquakes struck that end of the island, i find it extremely hypocritical that all of a sudden celebrities take on this massive help movement to increase their PR and fame… its disgusting, its shameful…. what happens in 3 months? in 2 years?  someone said this situation reminded them of katrina, its true, what happens after all the buzz is done? the need is still going to be there, the desperation, the hunger, the sickness, its all going to increase…. and its all been there from the very start, people are just too blind to see it… and its very sad…
just try to get your facts straight before you make any other comments or remarks.. how about you stand up and try to do something worthwhile with your life instead of blogging about how sad you feel about the whole situation?

I always thought it was a rule of the press to remain uninvolved. That rule is lacking compassion and I'm glad to see that barrier broken.  That kid looked like he was about to pass out.

Amazing… That's why I like Anderson Cooper's News Show….

Anderson Cooper is the same guy who complained on his show that “Haitian convicts had used the earthquake as an excuse to escape from prison….” Instead of, I don't know, starving to death? He's part of the same messed up value system the media is projecting about Haiti, that “security” is what's needed first while people literally starve and die from lack of water or antibiotics. This focus on looting and fear of the poor and black people there… it's really sick. The vast majority of the country can get no aid because they're apparently “dangerous” to aid workers? Nonsense. It only appears that they're “lawless” because it's been a whole week without food or water for so many people.

God, this is heart-wrenching. This has nothing to do with AC or any of us. Look at what these people are going through AND HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH FOR TOO LONG! Damnit, this infuriates me.

Totally brought tears to my eyes…the chaos is unbelievable.

God, that left me with my mouth open. These images bring me right back to Katrina. In the days after, as Baton Rouge filled with survivors and the injured and alone passed through the huge triage center on LSU's campus, pretty much every person I know volunteered for search and rescue, or at the triage center, or in makeshift food distribution centers, or at information banks designed to try to help people determine the fate of family members and locate survivors. You quickly start to wonder how much more you can witness without running away from your own sanity, and you wonder how long it will be until just a little bit of calm and order finally seeps through into the worsening chaos. I'd go home at night and watch the images of the violence and looting and sob until I was dehydrated, but that was because my family and I were safe and sound. Those who were truly affected were often in shock, with blank stares and no tears. Or sometimes almost like feral animals, frightened and angry beyond the limits of their humanity. Please don't turn away from this. It may be frustrating that the most you can do is donate a little money, or you may not even be able to do that. But don't let that be a reason to block this from your mind. Your prayers and thoughts are useful and needed, and so will be your concern long after this story stops airing on the nightly news.
