There's only one option after a walk on the Heath, and it's a roast at the Spaniard's Inn. Expect to jostle for a table inside, but if you're a hardier sort, there are plenty of tables outdoors too. That chicken on the right should entice meat-eaters, and there's a delicious nut roast (left) for veggie fans.
Just take a look at the roast at the Jolly Butchers. Don't deny it, you feel something. It's often busy, but handily, you can book a table for a Sunday lunch. If you can't get a table, walk a few minutes to the Rose and Crown on the top of Stoke Newington Church Street, which is run by the same team, and is a slightly bigger space.
3. Roast
When a restaurant has "roast" in the name, you know they mean business. From pheasant and grouse, to ham or lamb, the choice is yours. Or, pop along to Borough Market to pick up a Roast on the go.
4. The Marksman
This Hackney Road favourite is always busy, but luckily you can book a table. Their roasts also run into late-afternoon, so you don't need to rush over.
This Soho institution is perfect for a meat-free meal. No soggy nut roast here, instead it's a fragrant stuffed aubergine, with puy lentils and tomatoes. They even offer vegan Yorkshire puddings. What more could you want?
Work up an appetite on the marshes and then take on this roast. With cabbage, carrots, parsnip, two types of potato, meat and a monster Yorkshire, it's well worth the money. Be advised that they often run out, so get there early.
This newcomer has already made a name for itself, with a short menu and punchy dishes, like Tandori chicken (left). Note that they don't take bookings, and Sunday lunch runs from 12-4.
Seasonal, all-organic produce, served in Islington, means this meal is a little pricier (around £18). But the portions are huge, and field-to-plate dining is never going to be cheap.

This Canonbury restaurant takes their meat seriously. I mean, just look at the dish on the left, which features not only pork shoulder, but pork ribeye too. Keep an eye out for their venison roast too.
11. The Bull
A warm and friendly craft beer pub in Highgate, with plenty of dogs. Oh and the food is pretty great too. Not to be confused with the Bull and Last, which is around the corner. And also does a mean roast.

A foodie pub in Wandsworth. You can go traditional (right), or branch out with pheasant breast with a confit leg croquette (left).
13. The Antelope
This Tooting local is rather good, and their chips, though not part of a roast per se, will change your life.
14. The Elgin
A bountiful plate, with plentiful portions, in Ladbroke Grove.
15. The Bishop
There is only one thing to mention here and that is the YORKSHIRE FONDUE. Brie, baked inside a Yorkshire the size of your head. Look at it on the left. Majestic and worth the train to Kingston for.

For a more high-end roast, visit this staple in Barbican. That's grouse on the left, and jugged hare on the right. They're surprisingly family friendly too.

Because "vegan" doesn't have to mean "nut roast". Go to Primrose Hill and order that crispy tofu with blackbeans, mash and vegan gravy on the left. Or the vegan bangers and mash on the right.
