1. The joey was born to first-time mum Alinga recently in Edinburgh Zoo. Here she is, looking very proud.
Koala joeys are only 2cm long when born, and spend their first six months inside their mother’s pouch. The joey currently weighs approximately 100 to 150 grams and is expected to first pop its head out of the pouch by mid-October.
2. Visitors will be able to see the joey around November, when the joey will start to climb onto Alinga’s belly.
Around December, the joey will then move onto Alinga’s back and zoo keepers will weigh, sex and name the joey.
