There Is A Bar In London That Is Made Entirely From Ice

Hope you like your drinks chilled.

    Welcome to the Icebar.

Yes, that is a full size truck made from ice.

It’s the only ice bar open permanently in the UK.

Unusually, this bar uses natural ice rather than manufactured ice. It's also one of the few Icebars worldwide that's associated with the prestigious Ice Hotel.

The bar is made from 38 tonnes of ice.

The temperature in the bar is constantly between –5°C and −7°C.

To keep the chill in, you enter the bar through an airlock, followed by a double door. This creates a second skin to keep the temperature down.

If you want to stay cosy, you can put on a synthetic fur cape (above). In order to make sure the staff don't freeze, they alternate between greeting and caping, and working on the bar. Bar staff also wear ski gear– thermal leggings, gloves, hats etc.

All the glasses are made out of ice.

The glasses are made from the same river ice as the rest of the bar. The ice glasses are one-use, and the same measure as a coupe shot glass. Once they’re used, they go into an ice grinder and then back into the London water system.

“People try to take the glasses as mementoes", a rep tells BuzzFeed Life. "But they melt by the time they've got their capes off."

The temperature means that mixing cocktails is tricky.

The non-alcoholic bases would freeze if they kept in the bar, so the bases for the cocktails are mixed up before each session. As spirits don’t freeze, they can stay in the bar permanently.

Each session lasts 40 minutes, and tickets cost £14-16. This also includes your first cocktail.

The drinks were all designed for maximum impact.

There are plenty of selfie ops at the bar.

Each October, a team of artists come over from the Ice Hotel, remove all the ice and start again with a new design. This year, the theme is frozen food, so there's a full-size truck, a pineapple, a cupcake and more.
