1. Toronto Mayor Rob Ford allegedly called into a radio show under a fake name to defend his honor.
2. Earlier this year, Gawker and the Toronto Star reported the existence of a video where Ford allegedly smokes crack. On Thursday, Toronto police confirmed that the video exists.
4. Host Bill Carroll said he has interviewed Ford before and he is 90–95% sure it was him. “This guy, if he’s not the mayor — he could play one on the radio.”
5. He said Ford uses words that are unique to him and has a “little squeak he gets when he has an upper inflection.”
“Ian’s” defense was basically that he didn’t know he was being videotaped and he wasn’t smoking crack cocaine but he said the mayor can’t be fired for this transgression.
“He has personal problems,” he said. “By the way, if you think you can fire somebody because they had a personal problem with something like this, substance abuse — in a union, you can’t.”
Then the radio host was on to him.
“Rob. Mayor Ford, I know your voice, this is you isn’t it, Mayor Ford?”
Then “Ian” hung up.
