Why are we surprised? This isn’t the first time the IOC took an anti-gay stance.
Anyone remember the Gay Olympics? Of course not! The IOC put a stop to that in the 1980s, claiming they owned the word “Olympics”. So the Gay Olympics, an international sporting event, was forced to change their name to “Gay Games”. The Gay Games hosts LGBT athletes from around the globe every four years, timed so they would occur on years when there is no Olympics. But that wasn’t enough. The IOC separated the Winter and Summer Olympics, so now the Winter Olympics falls on the same years as the Gay Games. Find out more about the Gay Games at gaygames.org
