What Kind Of Home You Can Buy For $300,000 Around The Country

Oh, real estate, you so crazy.

Say you have $300,000 and want to buy a house somewhere in the United States. Let's see what you can get in different spots around the country.

Note: All of these listings were found via Zillow. Prices are all within $20,000 in either direction of the $300,000 target. Also, these are the listed prices, so actual sale prices could be either much higher or lower.

    1. New York City — $299,000

This Manhattan studio apartment boasts crown molding and hardwood floors, but also seems to have the smallest kitchen possible and only has room for a Murphy bed. The listing notes that an adjacent building has a gym you can use "for a fee." But hey, it does have a river view, so that's a plus.

    2. Fargo, North Dakota — $298,000

This charming 3 bed, 2 bath home comes in at just over 1,800 square feet. The kitchen could stand a little updating, but seems pretty spacious. The home also has a really large backyard deck that would probably be great for entertaining during the summer.

    3. Honolulu, Hawaii — $280,000

This 575 square foot apartment has 1 bed and 1 bath, but does come with a covered parking space. Although it's not like you'll need that for Honolulu's snowy winters. The kitchen seems OK, and you do have somewhat of a view...of telephone wires. Hey, you've got to sacrifice to be near the beach.

    4. Atlanta, Georgia — $290,693

At just over 3,000 square feet, this 5 bedroom, 3 bath house has plenty of space. The house has central A/C and granite countertops, but the area seems to be under development currently, meaning you might have to deal with construction noise for a while.

    5. Jackson, Mississippi — $320,000

Just under 3,600 square feet, and with 4 beds and 3 baths, this home is definitely a good size for a family. Plus it looks like the kitchen's got a bunch of nice exposed brick, and there's a fireplace in the living room.

    6. Los Angeles, California — $299,000

This condo in the Studio City area of LA has 750 square feet of living space, 1 bed, and 1 bath. The kitchen countertops are granite, although the cabinets and appliances look like they could use a little updating. Plus, it's all carpet. Have these people not seen House Hunters? HARDWOOD OR NOTHING.

    7. Las Vegas, Nevada — $299,900

This house has 6 beds, 3 baths. Yes, SIX bedrooms. It's about 2,750 square feet and has a fireplace in the living room. There are a few updates that could be made — the house was built in the '80s — but the home is largely move-in ready.

    8. Topeka, Kansas — $294,900

A finished basement, hardwood floors, and granite countertops await in this 5 bed, 3.5 bath home in 3,650 square feet. The house also has a wet bar for all of your ~entertaining~ needs.

    9. Cheyenne, Wyoming — $304,000

This is a totally move-in ready 3 bed, 3 bath home in just over 2,000 square feet. The countertops are all granite, even in the bathrooms, and there's a nice fireplace in the living room. And there's a three-car garage for all the auto fanatics out there in Cheyenne.

    10. Chicago, Illinois — $295,000

Damn, Chicago. This 1 bed, 1 bath apartment has a ~hip~ industrial style going on, an in-unit washer/dryer, and a parking space included in the price, plus it's got a balcony with a pretty great view. The downside is that this is one of those places that's too hip to have a full wall separating the bedroom from the rest of the apartment, so you have to be OK with the idea of noise traveling more easily between the two spaces.

    11. Boston, Massachusetts — $299,000

The building looks pretty nice from the outside...but then you get into the apartment and things kind of change. This home has 1 bed and 1 bath in under 500 square feet, meaning things are going to be cramped. The kitchen looks small and the bathroom could definitely use updating. Although very close to the Mass Turnpike, the apartment is also actually pretty close to both Fenway Park and Newbury St., one of the city's main shopping drags.

    12. Austin, Texas — $285,000

The capital of Texas offers up this home, a 3 bed, 2 bath in just under 1,700 square feet. The countertops throughout the home seem to be updated, and the listing claims a "waterfront" location. The kitchen also has a breakfast bar, which is nice. The floors, though, are laminate rather than real hardwood.

    13. Boise, Idaho — $319,900

This Boise abode has 5 beds, 3 baths, and 2,900 square feet of living space. The kitchen seems a bit...wood-heavy, but it's a good size. The master bath has a nice soaking tub and seems to have updated fixtures (as with the rest of the home). In fact, this house basically has all the updates you (read: someone on House Hunters) would be looking for, from hardwood floors to nice landscaping. Boy, Boise, you sure offer a lot for the money!

    14. Miami, Florida — $299,000

This 778 square foot Miami apartment with 1 bed and 1 bath will set you back just under $300,000. The interior actually looks pretty nice, with granite countertops and hardwood floors, and there is a balcony with a nice water view. Sure, the apartment could be a bit bigger, but it actually seems like it's not too bad a deal.

What have we learned from this real estate ~exploration~? REAL ESTATE IS COMPLETELY INSANE.
