I love and have had dogs my entire life, but I also was attacked by a neighbor’s dog. The dog wasn’t trained to be vicious, they just never bothered to train him at all; the common fallacy of getting a cute puppy then never putting the work in.
For any breed: Bad owners aren’t just the people who abuse their dogs, they’re the people who don’t socialize their dogs, don’t train them not to jump, and don’t recognize aggression. Your dog running up and jumping on strangers (or strange dogs) is not okay and “he’s just being friendly” is not cute. If you get any sort of dog and just assume that good nature will keep him from hurting other people, you are wrong. You have to recognize that a poorly-trained dog is dangerous as well. Dogs require work, training, and attention their entire lives, and if you’re not willing to put it in, don’t get a dog, for the dog’s sake and for the sake of your neighbors.
